EPoX 8K5A2+ KT333 Motherboard Review

Iwill XP333-R & DDR400 Update
Some time back, we reviewed the Iwill XP333-R motherboard and we found a rather interesting twist to it - it could be set to run with DDR400 memory. However, at that time, we only have DDR333 memory modules and since they were still rather new, we could not get any benchmarks to run on the board. But we did managed to get a good screenshot of it at DDR400 and also managed to get WCPUID to confirm that.

The Pentium 4 processor has always benefited much from the RDRAM technology as RAMBUS technology could provide the large bandwidth necessary to compute huge chunks of data at high speed. VIA drivery 4in1 4.43
Právě dnes VIA vydala novou sadu 4in1 ovladačů. Je-li pravda co VIA uvádí jako změnu, pak je to jen certifikování Katalogu zabezpěčení od Microsoftu (MS WHQL) u CAT souborů VGA a Inf. Upgrade tak dle mého není zas až tak moc nutný. Nicméně i tuto verzi vám nabídneme ke stažení přímo od nás (1,1MB).

SiS R658 na IDF
Ačkoliv představení SiS R658, prvního chipsetu s podporou RDRAM pamětí od někoho jiného než Intelu, proběhlo už v půli prázdnin, základní desky s ním byste hledali marně. Původně se měl tento chipset objevit na trhu v tomto čtvrtletí (to končí tento měsíc), ale poslední zprávy z Intel Developer Fora zní, že první produkty se objeví ke konci října, nebo možná až v listopadu. Mělo by jít o doladěnou desku s referenčním designem, kterou můžete vidět na obrázku vpravo.

IDF: Intel demonstruje 4,7 GHz
Společnost Intel demonstrovala během IDF procesor pracující na frekvenci 4,7 GHz. Jen zdůrazňuji, že nepadlo ani slovo o tom, že se jedná o Pentium 4 a jako jeho nástupce se všeobecně očekává procesor známý pod kódovým jménem Prescott, který možná bude vybaven tolik diskutovanou technologií Yamhill. Co je však jisté, je skutečnost, že od Pentia 4 budou procesory Intel vybaveny technologií Hyper-Threading, blíže o ní již zde.

Zajímavosti okolo DDR-II a RDRAMů
Mimo potvrzení dřívějších informací se nyní dozvídáme, že Yellowstone od Rambusu mají přijít na trh v roce 2004, ale možná až 2005. Paměti s touto technologií mají být baleny do dnes běžných "ball grid array" (BGA) namísto znatelně dražšího "chip scale packaging" (CSP) u dnešních RDRAMů, což bude znamenat znatelně nižší cenu. Kuriózní je, že dnešní DDR paměti jsou baleny pomocí BGA, kdežto DDR-II budou baleny za použití CSP. Znamená to tedy, že RDRAMy budou levnější než DDR-II?

Trocha skepticismu okolo Hammerů
Fakt, že Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) tu a onde předvádí procesory Hammer, dnes už nikoho nepřekvapí. Stalo se tak i v Číně na asijském CeBITu. Samozřejmě byly předváděny jak serverové SledgeHammery, tak desktopové ClawHammery. Toto samo o sobě není příliš zajímavý fakt, ale zajímavé je, co se dozvídáme okolo těchto procesorů. Jak se již delší dobu předpokládá, serverové Opterony přijdou na trh nejdříve v lednu příštího roku a desktopové ClawHammery ještě tento rok. Jenže zpočátku jich bude asi nedostatek, takže nejprve budou uspokojováni jen velcí výrobci počítačů a až dostatečně stoupne produkce, tak budou mít šanci i ostatní.

Srpnové výsledky výrobců chipsetů
S finančními výsledky za srpen jsme opět museli čekat na ALi. A je to také ALi, která je na tom hůř a hůře. Zatímco ještě v květnu byla jediná v plusu (v porovnání s loňským rokem, samozřejmě), tak nyní je vidět, že VIA a SiS prodávají velmi dobře. SiS se dokonce dostala do vedení, když porovnáme celkovou roční výrobu s loňkým rokem (v procentech). Na pořadí se však nic nemění. ALi ale začíná ztrácet i na SiS, zatímco ta si drží víceméně stejný odstup od VIA. Otázkou je, proč se tomu tak děje. ALi sice deklarovala, že druhá polovina roku pro ní bude rozhodně lepší.

Čipset Intel 845PE (společně s 845GE/845GV) bude vypuštěn 7. října a společnost ASUS již vypustila detaily o své desce P4PE. Ta bude podporovat Pentium 4 (533/400MHz FSB), až 2GB paměti DDR333 (3 x DIMM), ATA/133 RAID (Promise), SerialATA, 6 PCI slotů, AGP 4x, 6-kanálové audio, 6 USB 2.0 portů, 2 IEEE1394 porty a Gigabit Ethernet od Broadcom. Software bundle bude již tradičně podporovat WinDVD, WinCoder, WinRip a WinProducer. Deska bude také disponovat modrým PCI slotem pro bezdrátovou komunikaci (např. Bluetooth).

Společnost Gigabyte začíná dodávat základní desku Dual Socket A GA-7DPXDW+, která podporuje dvojici procesorů AMD Athlon XP/MP/Athlon/Duron (200/266MHz FSB) a až 4GB DDR266/200 paměti (i neregistrované). Je vybavena čipsetem AMD 760MPX, dvěma 64-bitovými PCI-X sloty, třemi 32-bitovými PCI a jedním AGP Pro 4x. Diskové rozhraní ATA/133 je doplněno řadičem RAID od Promise (PDC20276). Integrovaný 10/100Mbit Ethernet (Intel 82550PM) a audio (SC’97) jsou samozřejmostí. V některých japonských obchodech byla deska spatřena za cca $300.

Albatron 8KHXT další podvozek pro Hammer
Společnost Albatron je dalším výrobcem základních desek, který představil model určený pro přicházející procesory Hammer od společnosti AMD. Její model je postaven na čipové sadě od společnosti VIA (fotka je bohužel rozmazána a není tak vidět konkrétní model) dva paměťové sloty DDR SDRAM, jeden slot AGP 8x a šest slotů PCI. Asustek představil dual-Xeon server
Společnost Asustek vypustila server AP1700 založený na dvou procesorech Intel Xeon 2,4GHz a může být použit samostatně i jako 5U rack-mount server. AP1700 podporuje až 12GB paměti DDR266/200, pět 64-bitových slotů PCI-X (+ jeden PCI/33MHz, 32-bit) a zdroj 500W+500W. Pro pevné disky je určeno šest hot-swap SCSI slotů i pro SCSI RAID, dále nový server obsahuje dual-LAN pro 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet.

Springdale připraven k testování
Podle DigiTimes plánuje společnost Intel Corp. vydat první vzorky čipové sady Springdale svým partnerům již tento měsíc. Tento čipset bude podporovat Pentium 4 / Prescott na 533/667MHz FSB. Jiné čipsety, 845GE, 845PE a 845GV budou vypuštěny 7. října a všechny podporují 533MHz FSB pro Pentium 4. 845GV je určen pro paměti DDR266, zatímco zbylé dva pro DDR333 a technologii Hyper-Threading (podporují Pentium 4 3,06GHz+).

Server Digit-Life informoval o jednom příspěvku na auditoriích Yahoo, ve kterém se objevil snímek čtyřprocesorové základní desky určené údajně pro serverové procesory osmé generace od AMD, K8 Opteron. Zdroj je to sice velice neoficiální, ale pracujme s tím, co máme. Na obrázku si všimněte hlavně mnoha paměťových slotů, které odpovídají použití designu systému podle dokumentů AMD.

VIA 4 in 1 s podporou AGP 8x
Společnost VIA Technologies uvedla další verzi ovladače VIA 4 in 1. Tentokráte se jedná o verzi 4.42, která již plně podporuje sběrnici AGP 8x (specifikace 3.0). Kterou disponují čipové sady Apollo P4X400 a Apollo KT400. Novou verzi si můžete stáhnout přímo ze stránek VIA Technologies a to buď přes protokol FTP nebo HTTP.

Pentium 4 2,8GHz přetaktováno na 3,917 GHz
Krátce po vypuštění nového Pentia 4 na frekvencí 2,8GHz se objevilo první rekordní přetaktování. Sice tím nebyla prolomena nejvyšší frekvence dosažená overclockingem (přes 4,4Gz), ale výsledek 3917 MHz, dosažený serverem Muropaketti je úctyhodný. Bylo k němu zapotřebí deset litrů tekutého dusíku (teplota –196°C), nastavování násobičů a frekvencí, trochu času a výsledek se brzy dostavil. Více informací naleznete zde.

VIA Apollo KT400 již i v low-endu
Společnost ECS je dalším výrobcem základních desek, která představila svoje řešení postavené na čipové sadě VIA Apollo KT400. Její model nese označení L7VTA a samozřejmě podporuje „neexistující“ paměťový standard DDR400, do celkem tří DIMM slotů můžete umístit maximálně 3 GB operační paměti. Pro rozšíření desky můžete využít jeden slot AGP 4x/8x, pět slotů PCI a jeden slot CNR. Mezi další příjemné vlastnosti této desky se řadí 10/100 mbps ethernet, AC’97, IEEE 1394 a IDE RAID (Promise PDC20276) řadiče. Poslední zajímavostí je možnost změny napětí jádra procesoru. SiS648 již i od společnosti Gigabyte
Včera jsme psali o základní desce značky EPoX postavené na čipové sadě SiS648. Dnes vám můžeme představit další desku využívající výhod této čipové sady. Jedná se o model Gigabyte 8SG667, který má zcela totožné specifikace jako deska od EPoXu: 1x AGP 4x/8x, 5x PCI, 2x Ultra ATA/133, 3x DIMM, maximálně 3 GB operační paměti DDR266/333, USB 2.0 a šesti kanálový zvukový čip. Oproti desce od EPoXu postrádá IEEE1394 (FireWire) port, ethernet řadič, RAID řadič a má o jeden slot PCI méně.

EPoX uvádí novou základní desku s čipovou sadou SiS648
Společnost EPoX představila novou základní desku (označení 4SDA5) postavenou na čipové sadě SiS648/SiS963 určenou pro procesory Intel Pentium 4. Deska disponuje jedním AGP 4x/8x slotem a šesti sloty PCI. Pro paměť jsou připraveny tři sloty DIMM, které podporují paměti DDR SDRAM PC2100/2700. Samozřejmostí je již řadič USB 2.0 a IEEE1394, stejně tak jako integrovaný 10/100 mbps ethernet řadič značky Realtek RTL8201B. Další zajímavostí je také RAID řadič HPT372 (Ultra ATA/133, RAID 0, 1 a 0+1). Napětí lze korigovat u pamětí, sběrnice AGP a samozřejmě také u jádra procesoru.
